Just a Few Things About Where We Live

First of all I would like to wish everyone a Happy St. Patrick's Day! I have never been big into St. Patrick's Day, but it is pretty hard to escape living here. St. Patrick's day is huge in Savannah. From what we understand it is a big day full of parades and drinking!!! We decided to pass up going into Savannah today :)
Here is a picture from the 2007 parade:

They also dye the fountains green for St. Patrick's Day.

Another thing about where we live is the bugs!!! BUGS, BUGS and more BUGS! Apparently they have sand gnats here. They are very small and leave very itchy bites! I got on the Internet to find a picture of the annoying bugs, but came up with this:
There is a baseball team called the Savannah Sand Gnats!!!
Here is a picture of the mascot:

His name is Gnate the Gnat! He's cute here, but don't be fooled by his charming looks!!! Deep down he is a man-eating machine!

Lastly, I would like to discuss the pollen!! There is a fine coat of pollen over everything. This only happens in the spring, but it makes everything filthy. I am surprised that I haven't had allergies yet. I think the humidity makes the pollen stick to everything instead of letting it fly through the air.
Here is a pollen hand print that I found on the Internet:

I have a feeling that there are a lot of other things we need to learn about Georgia!!

Isn't the pollen great? Nothing like yellow-coated everything to make your sinuses go crazy.

I have never had a problem with sand gnats, just fire ants. I've learned not to wear flip-flops if I'm going to be outisde for an extended period of time.

St. Patty's in Savannah looks fun, I never would have thought it would be such a big deal around these parts.

Florida is probably looking pretty good right now. Not as many bugs and not as much pollen. South Lake Tahoe has the pollen plague as well. It looks like you're settleing in. Looking forward to seeing a baseball game when I come out.
Love Ya,
Grandpa H

Ooooooo...icky. What else can I say? Sorry you have to deal with such plagues. I think you should have gone to Savannah...just for the green beer! ;) Looking forward to hearing more about your digs...pictures, please...or maybe a video tour. Did you get the key to the park?

Ha ha---WELCOME TO GEORGIA!! :-)

Just wait until the lovebugs come...YUCK. They were TERRIBLE when we were in Savannah last September. Ick ick ick.

Oh--and avoid Savannah during Oktoberfest too. Just FYI. But DO go visit Fort Pulaski (sp?)--VERY cool, and I HIGHLY reccomend going to the river front and watching the big ships.

We need to plan a long weekend together...I can't wait until June!!

Love ya!
